Carpet and stereo

Post by jsdieter »

Once it stops snowing I want to put carpet into my spider but I don't really know where the start. I found kits that are about $250 and up. I have thought about trying to do it my self. My friend did his mustang and it looked pretty good. basically what i am asking is what is the best way to put a carpet in my car. Im 16 so cheaper would be better, but i would be willing spend the money for a kit if they are really that much better.
I also want to take out the back seat for speakers and a shelf if that makes a difference.

I can't remember what I spent on my carpet. It wasn't even $100 I got it from here. It is excellent carpet that is for cars. For what the spider needs. It would be easy to do it yourself. Especially if you have your old carpet to get the patterns from. Just make sure you have the grain going all in the same direction. When you cut it, do it from the back. Check it out.

Many people have been duplicating the original "cornrow" look by cutting out the pieces from indoor/outdoor carpeting you can buy at Lowe's. It really does look nice and it doesn't cost much to have an interior trim guy add edging to make it look more professional.

The Lowes/home depot is actually better than the crappy factory stuff. No need to bind the edges providing you get really nice original or OEM floor mats for the front that will already be bound and maybe a logo. That is where my money is going after seeing what you get for $250 plus bucks. One tip is to lay it out in the sun or warm area to make it more supple that will help it settle better. A low heat iron and or heat gun helps also. Just watch the heat and gun distance. Then use a little spray contact cement to help hold them in place (Just in the main area not your floor mats). Good luck

The carpet that your going to get a Lowes or Walmart isn't near the quality of the carpet that you can get at the upholstery place I posted. This stuff isn't that expensive either. I have already purchased it. I have looked at these other places. Just trying to save you some time and money.

at walmart i was around 36 bucks for the tan.. and it seemed to be alot heavier than the thin crap. not too thick but a good thick.

just got home from lowes and cut the new carpet already..
it was light tan and dark tan pattern. Much thicker than stock carpet.. $40 for the carpet and $29 for the insulation.
so $80.00 total.. probably didnt save much money to do it this way .. plus ill have to get the edging put on the floor mat peices. If anything i think i got much better carpet than that stock stuff.. lets see if it fits now.

Hopefully it isn't too thick. Show us some pic's. Good luck with the install. In case you have thought of it. Sew some velcro in the areas the carpet wants to stick up. Boy, I can't wait to do my carpet.
If you can't find the edging. Go to that site I gave you. They have it.

lowes had 12 foot long rolls.. pick your favorite one youll need 5 feet of it.. or at least i did with no back seat.
if you have a back seat 4 feet will be fine.. they have padding too. they have actual car carpet. But no tan at my location.. just black , grey, and a big roll of rubber.. looked like floor mat stuff.. would of been cool to carpet it in rubber. not as cozy but much more practical. carpet costs 10.00 to 13.00 per 1x12 foot
