So I get this offer in the mail from 21st Century Insurance (1-877-280-4763) boasting to save me money on car insurance. Normally I just throw them out but today I also received my State Farm new rates which were crazy to say the least so I thought hey worth checking others out right? So I call the company and the kid on the other end of the line asks me the usual questions and then we finally get to the cars. When we get to the Fiat the kid says "Oh we can't insure you". So I said "What do you mean you can't insure my Fiat that's stupid!" The kid says "No sir I can't insure any of your cars because you own a Fiat Spider". "Let me get this straight, because I have a Fiat Spider your company will not only not insure that car but will not insure any of my cars because we also own a Fiat Spider"? The kid says "Yes sir that's correct, that's just company policy."
Sounds like a bunch of crap. I switched to Geico from USAA several years ago, and they were dramatically less. I have classic car insurance on the Fiat through a third party vendor, but I may shop that around when it comes due in May.
Never heard of such a thing. I'd recommend calling the company back and talking to someone else.

Obvoiusly our good reputations have been tarnished by a few unwieldy hooligans, whose names I won't mention. You know who you are. Too much of "driving it like you stole it".
Yes Mark, not only are Fiat owners stereotyped, but our cars are profiled! I have to get my car smogged at "Test Only" because it fits the profile of high poluters. This despite the fact that DMV has records of my smog results, which are very good.

'82 2000 Spider: after 26 years between Spiders.
This actually happened to me when I owned a Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, plus another car. I had 2 different insurance companies tell me that they would not issue a policy to either vehicle since I owned the twin turbo. I can't believe that would be the case with our Spiders though.

Believe it, Its true. I used to be insured through Travelers and they told me that they wont insure 1 ton trucks or bigger. I told them they were crazy because there are 100 million 1 tons out there. Its there policy they say. So I cancelled them and moved to Liberty Mutual for 6 years. Mind you I have had an absolutely perfect driving record with no accidents since about 1988ish and counting. I keep my cars insured in one package with a different insurance carrier but i always kept my big truck(s) insured separately for some odd reason. But out of the blue this Nov 2009 I got a letter from Liberty Mutual saying they no longer wish to renew my policy anymore for my truck. Its was a shocker. The bad thing is I didn't open the envelope until Jan 2010 just thinking it was another mindless letter about nothing at all. But I was lucky in the sense that I had another insurance carrier and i always go through my insurance agent for business/home/auto/etc. insurance. I told her the story and she laughed. Then she said that the problem is that I now have a laps in my ins. being they dumped me in Nov and I didn't do anything. So I said to her. Sara, lets do it like this. Sara, I just bought another truck and I'd like to insure it. She laughed again and said thats pretty good, I will accept that. So all was good. Being I lived in Cali and Reno I know all to well about what happens when you have an insurance laps. I never had that happen but its always seems to come up in conversation over there.
That's utterly crazy. Of course, you probably carry full coverage on your 1 tons, right? I only have liability and comp on mine since we can do bodywork repairs ourselves. I've got my Fiats, dually and all other vehicles insured with Farm Bureau. They seem to be easy to work with and I haven't had a problem. Some of my Fiats are insured with Hagerty.

Ever changing count of parts cars....It's a disease!
The wierd thing was they said that they could not insure me at all for any vehicle because I owned a Fiat Spider? Everyone in the house has a nice clean driving record. I can understand if a company does not want to insure a particular vehicle for what ever reason but to say they won't insure anything because you have a particular vehicle is kind of wierd to me. It's like having a pit bull and trying to get home owners insurance except it's a little fun car that hasn't attacked anybody that I know of any way.
