Interior progress

Post by zachmac »

Luigi said if I was gonna use him to model Brady's heat shield (see related post in general fiat related) he also wanted to show off his relatively new interior. Thanks to MBOUSE on the short shifter. It is a mod EVERYONE should do (and no that cheapskate won't pay me adime for saying so!).

The mats are from Spider Point and the contrasting shade is actually quite nice in person. Material and fit are excellent! i can highly recommend them, unlike their seat belt guides.

How's he look?

that's looking pretty darn good! You'll have to make sure you have clean shoes before stepping on those mats

That looks great! I haven't seen the dash and upper panels done in brown, it looks good. Now you just need one of Denise's custom dashes.

The car came orignal;y with the brown dash and door panel caps as well as brown sunvisors. I haven't seen to many like it either, maybe an option? BTW, if anyone has a rare dark brown drivers side sunvisor I need one. At some point the PO changed it to black so I have a miss-matched set. Maybe this was a Guiness Black and Tan Edition?

Thanks to all for the compliments. I did new seat covers from IAP and carpet from Bruces. The door panels are origianl and just cleaned up well. the center console and rear quarter panels just got a quick re-spray with a good vinyl dye. Overall I am very happy with the outcome.

No, the brown is flat, just like the tan material, just brown. As I said, I have every reason to believe the brown dash, caps and visors are all original. They all have the appropriate patena for a 68k car. looking at the back of the door panels also seems to confirm them as originals. BTW, the kick panels (footwell) are also brown wich again points toward this as factory original.

The dash also had a strip of tan vinyl across the bottom all the way across but it had shrunk and looked pretty bad so I just removed it. I'm still working on getting all the old black glue off the visible part of the dash where Fiat glued it on.

So, how many other two tone cars are out there? Anyone? Also, can someone confirm this as an original option or interior?

Hey Jeff,

That's an interesting steering wheel. Sort of looks like the one that came on my '82 Spider (below) when I first bought it back in the spring of '08. I replaced it shortly thereafter with a stock wheel. I've never seen another one like it until I saw yours. Do you think it was original equipment?

No, its an aftermarket wheel. Search my previous posts and I think you'll find the details. I figured out its an Italia I think? The thing I really like about it is it puts two horn buttons out close to your fingertips versus the center hub.

Correction; Ital Volanti. I found a couple for sale on the interent after I realized what it was. One of my previous post responders said they were standard on late X 1/9s so it may have come off one of them? I really like it a lot, so much that it has kept me from popping for a nice Nardi or other wooden wheel.

It looks like the script on the center says "Bertone", so I'll buy the X1/9 story since the car was designed (and later badged and sold) by Bertone. Much like the 124 Spider's shift to Pininfarina. Both happened around the same time, if I recall correctly.

Jeff, your interior color scheme is the one used on the 1000 1981 Anniversary Edition Spiders that were made. Yours is the first one I've seen that has those options prior to them being used on them. The padded console is also a custom touch that was an option on other cars but was standard on the Anniversary model. They also had leather seats and a strip of leather in the lighter tan color on the bottom section of the dash.
