Oil Filter

OK guys and gals. What is your favorite oil filter to use and more importantly what are the part #'s

I went to the local autozone and they gave me one that looks like it should fit on a mac truck. The other brand looked a bit small. Seems that they all were a different size and shape. I realize that they will all probably fit and do the job as the threads and gasket all seemed to be about the same size. But, what is the time tested best one to use?

It should be a rather large filter. I think Fram, STP and Bosch all have the same size. Off the top of my head, I think it is a PH7.
PH 16 will also work

I run an Ac-Delco PF-13 on all my Spiders. Never had a problem with them.

I read a really in depth oil filter test recently and the results were interesting.The lowest rated filters ...Fram! I had never used anything but a Fram before.They had less media and let larger particles through.There are only a few mfg's,with many names attached to the same filter.Champion Labs,Wix,Purolator,and Fram make all the filters sold under many,many names.Here is a link to the result overview.There is detailed testing of all the filters,in another area of the site.

I just went through this from the opposite direction....
I went down to Oreilley's to get a filter, and the one they gave me looked about HALF the size of what was on there! So I did a little checking, and here's my theory, based on what I've been able to decipher....

It seems there are actually two different filters listed for the car, because the 'truck' one was too large for the A/C models. Eventually, most of the parts-houses have standardized (it seems) to the smaller ones, because they fit either application. But some of the more specialty houses will likely still have both (or at least LIST them both).

Both filters use the same gasket / mating surface and threads. The question for the smart people is this: Does a 'larger' filter necessarily mean it's better? (I just brought-up "size-matters" in my 3rd post here.... )

Size does matter, but I don't know if it does with filters.
I know the filter on my Fiat is the size of the oil pan and three times bigger than the one on my Grand Prix.

The larger the filter, the more folded filtering material.

Large is a relative term. circumference and diameter make up size. it is the total square inches of folded filtering material. if you are using the stock location, i'd suggest the filter that gives the most filtering material. watch out for filters that are too long(tall). limited clearance under that engine.

i use a remote filter kit, because i was tired of removing the chin spoiler, belly pan and oil pan guard every time i wanted to change the oil filter.

that stock fat oil filter is short. i use a tall, narrow diameter filter, same one for my Ranger... which makes it easier to remember.

Size only matters if the manafacturer fills it with more filter! I too like the AC. It feels heavier. I use Shell Rotunda 10w30.

Dave, do you mean Rotella?
With 10w-30, do you then add ZDDP to your oil?

Yes Rotella. If thats a Zink addative, I have not, but it sounds like a good idea.
