I had several bulbs fall apart when I pulled the lights apart to clean up the dirt. I decided to go with LED replacements so I ordered some for the front and rear side markers, tail lights, and gauges. I miscounted so I'm short one LED for the water temp and the clock takes a different type of bulb
The LEDs seem as bright if not brighter than the stock bulbs

Re: LED taillights, side marker, and gauge lights arrived
do you find the red led's hard to read at night?
Re: LED taillights, side marker, and gauge lights arrived
dang I need to replace the gauges or the gauge light too. The one now is incredibly dim. How was your install? was it difficult?
Re: LED taillights, side marker, and gauge lights arrived
I had some led's. They look square because there are really four tiny lights glued together somehow. They won't fit into my side marker holes and if i push them they might go in but they definitely will not come out. There must be different types of led's then. Are there different types of leds?
Re: LED taillights, side marker, and gauge lights arrived
led's only shine in one direction, so for dash lights they attach as many as 10 or 12 tiny lights so the light shines all around the gauge. We've found the single led's are useless in dash gauges as they only light one little spot, although that one spot is bright

Where did you order the LED's SCarlson? I think the tail light looks brighter with the LED. Was instalation as easy as just plug in? Or did you have to install anything else?

The leds I got are these:http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/ ... AR#WLED-x4. They are no wider than the 194 bulbs they replaced. The install was as easy as replacing the bulb. I had some difficulty putting in the side marker bulbs so I uses a file to round the sides of the base so they would spread the tabs easier. Some leds are polarized so they will only work when inserted the right way. These include resisters so they wouldn't burn out if inserted backwards.
I used the 32 degree amber in front and red in the rear side marker. For the guages, I used the 90 degree red. The taillights are the red 67-x15
You might have to drop the steering column to get the dash panel out. I managed to carefully wiggle it out without doing that. There is one bulb for each of the small gauges and two in the larger. The clock takes a small bayonet bulb. I'm not sure what size.
I'm not sure how easy it will be to see at night. I'll have to get the car running first.

Re: LED taillights, side marker, and gauge lights arrived
Hello Scarlson and fellow members,
Today, i picked up a red 1978 124! very excited.
There are a list of things I need to repair...
One of which is to replace the amber bulb for the front right side marker.
Could you please help me figure out which bulb to purchase and where?
Also, are the red side markers on the rear of the car suppose to light up? If so, I need to replace bulbs for them as well.
Thanks for your help!
Young

Welcome to the forum youngki. Don't forget to post and intro into New Members / Introductions. Photos of your car would be nice
The front and rear side markers should light up. The original bulbs are 158, but 194 are the direct replacement and easier to locate. You should be able to pick them up at any local auto parts store.

Thanks, Scarlson.
I did pick up some 194 bulbs from NAPA, but not sure how to remove the plastic cover on the side markers...
Any instructions much appreciated.
I'll post some pictures of my 124.
thanks!
