Melting Metal

A couple of before and after projects that I have worked on. These were fairly easy, I have also replaced the entire floor pan. Much harder. I know it would have been much easier to start with a solid body, but I've had it for a long time...and you know...

Did you use a soldier or did you melt the metal when welding. I'm thinking of the soldier. I was thinking of adding some soldier to my car in the thin areas but was told I should just cut out the bad and reweld new metal in. I'm glad I did. What you've done looks good!

I decided early on to bite the bullet and cut out the rusted metal and reshape new metal to be mig welded back in. Glad I did.

Heres a couple more before and afters.
WOW, that first pic really shows a piece of crap. Notice no holes in the floor in the surface rusted version. That is only because the holes did not show up till the rubber undercoating was removed. Then it became swiss cheese.



Proof that the car originally came with flow-thought air ventilation.



The color of the metal differences are the florescent tubes cast the upper metal as yellow. But all is beautiful. I also got rid of the passanger side cat hump. New metal is much thicker than original.

My hat's off to you Pope. You have much more patience (and welding skill) than I do.

I'm really impressed. Tip the hat at you,the work looks great and seems there is a fair bit to do.
I have some/lots of rust issues with one of the 72's, hope it comes out even close to what your doing. Gonna be one big source of pride when completed.

Yes, but not as big as the hole in my head for taking this project on. Drivable late spring 2010, Its 30 birthday. Interior is all finished.

I remember some of those pictures. Did you weld in that drivers side fender piece? How is the cowel section comming along? Looks like a labor of love.

Ya, I installed both pieces to a very satifactory fit. These are mostly pics from a while ago. But at least shows the progress.

Hats off to you, Pope. That's a lot of work you've committed yourself to. Too bad you're not close by. I have a beautiful 72 body that only needs a little welding.
