Seat options

Post by Mark_vaughn »

Anyone know of a seat that fits well in the Spider? My stock seats are uncomfortable and don't go far enough foward for my wife to reach the pedals. Which may be a good thing...

I am thinking of getting something at the local junk yard.

Anyone with a successful replacements and what did they cost?

I've heard of people using CRX or Pontiac Fiero seats. How tall is your wife? I'm almost 5'1" and can reach the pedals easily in both my Spiders. My husband did weld a medal block under the clutch pedal when I had the racing clutch, but under normal circumstances, I have no problem. Try cleaning and lubing the slides to make sure the seat is going as far as it can.

I've got Prelude seats in mine. Very comfortable, but a little wide compared to the CRX seats. I don't have to adjust mine, so I fixed them in place since they rub on the armrest anyway. Why not an aftermarket seat?

I am avoiding aftermarket b/c would like to keep the price down. I see $2000 cars with $5000 in wheels and tires often. I would hate to have seats that rival the car value.

Mike, I didn't want to sound like I was bragging by saying 5 ft 1/2 in tall. That sounds like I'm a midget trying to squeeze more height out of the situation. :D

LOL

My wife insistsshe is "at least" 5 foot tall. I give her the same line every time, three pair o' socks and you might make it.

I just know that it is a proven fact that demure stature does not prevent Spider operations. She does slide the seat all the way forward. And, she does keep up with me in traffic. When she does drive me around town, I do not witness any trouble. And....she IS happy driving her Spider.

I am interested in learning about Ron's modification to the pedals if you might have some pictures to forward via email. I would like to see my wife a little further back from the steering wheel.

aftermarket seats are pretty reasonably priced these days, I regularly see them priced less than a recover job would cost.

How would putting blocks under the pedal bring them closer to the driver? That would only limit the travel

The block is only under the clutch pedal. I had to have it to the floor in order to keep it disengaged and since I was using my tippy toes, I was afraid of serious problems such as pulled toe muscles, broken toe nails...you know.
Mike, are your wife's arms long enough to move the seat back and still reach the steering wheel?

i PRESUMED she meant over, but I could be wrong. she did say something about a race vehicle only.

I need my wife's pedals closer to her, so she can back off the full forward seat position; consuming the steering wheel in the process.

does anyone have a technique to do this? I'd be very interested.

Denise,

To the best of my knowledge, and I will have to go home and ask, it is her legs that are the issue; not her arms.

I think there is enough arm reach to put the seat back but then she looses control of the pedals.

I will have to ask.

in medieval times they used a device called "the rack", to stretch a persons' arms and legs

Duh, it is over. The pedal cover fits nicely over it. I stuck my head under the dash to get a picture and saw it....no picture though. My camera batteries are dead.

i have the pontiac seats (fiero) with the speakers in the headrest there great you just sit a little lower in the car on the driver side but the same on the passenger side (cat bump) the speakers let you here the radio when going down the highway

i don't think the rack is legal in michigan. and besides, it is just her legs that are causing the issue.

charge up those batteries, Denise, and send me a snap. if i can get her away from the steer wheel, i will feel better.

does your hubby have any trouble driving your car with the block on the pedal?
