new member from Arizona

hey, im from Arizona, went to school in Flint, Michigan half the year while working in Ohio the other half, just finished and im currently staying in Pennsylvania, but ill be back in AZ where the Fiat is in July

its a '75 Fiat Spider (1800), blast to drive, although i want to do a bit of tinkering with it and make it even nicer

my rough plans include shooting for 120-150 hp, mildly turbocharged (water-air intercooler), megasquirt with ignition control (and DIS), and whatever is involved to get the engine to relatively happily spin to 8000 rpm or higher (need to do a fair bit of research yet), also probably a different final drive to get a bit lower cruising rpm

im 23 and a freshly minted (although currently unemployed) mechanical engineer

Welcome to the site.I had a conversation with the owners of Megasquirt recently,at a vintage meet.I was hoping for some kind of plug n play for my F.I. 82.No such luck,but the product is really great and I watched them do an install on a RX-7.Dyno figures were very impressive.

What part of the state are you (going to be) in?
I'm down in the southeast corner of the state in Sierra Vista, that's about 90 mile southeast of Tucson.

yeah i know where Sierra Vista is, i am from (fiat lives in) Bisbee, although it was purchased several years back by my dad in Sierra Vista

as far as where i'll end up, i have no idea, going to be looking for the Denver area perhaps

as far as the 8k goes, thats not a set number, i had just heard talk about people having nice high-revving fiats, so that part will obviously require a good bit of research as to what all is involved and me to decide if its worth it

ive got a couple pictures of it that id taken awhile back, it hasnt changed at all since them

well, im currently getting ready to do an EFI conversion on my friend's Triumph Spitfire (using a GM TBI setup), i ordered the electrical components last week and should be getting them and start assembling them this week, my goal being to have the car finished and tuned before i leave here June 26

so, assuming that all goes relatively according to plan, i suspect i could provide a fair bit of good information/advice if you were wanting to go that route, it wouldn't be plug and play, but i dont think it would be all too difficult, since you already have all the bits there for you

What year is the Studebaker? My dad had one like that when I was a kid. I could date myself and say it was new, but I won't.

the bottom picture was from '98 when we went to Bonneville in it

since it has had a few changes to it: 351W, T5, ford 9" rear axle
