No knee rub, steering wheel extension..

Post by joshuagore »

A few years back my brother had a trick little mr2 which had a UCOB MOMO steering wheel. He made an extension to better fit his Kirkey seat. Last night when fitting my custom seat setup, I noticed that the seat would be slightly higher and therefor my knees would rub on the wheel even more. I was reminded of his adapter, and what do you know... it fits perfect. My knees only rub the wheel if im really stretching for heel toe shifting.

You wouldn't happen to have a sketch or diagram of said extension so I could make/have one made? I am about 6'5" and I would love some extra room. It would also allow me to move the seat up slightly so I could get my little girls in the back!

I hope you are short, there is not much room to gain with taller seats. I had to re- do mine.

Re The adapter was made in the machine shop here by my brother. Let me know a fair price and I will see if he is interested in maiking more. If not ime sure I can draw it up a solid model real quick and make a print.

As far as the seat height... It was a product of the seat and mount and not choice. I plan on making adjustments to lower it, but its likely I will continue to use the adapter because I'm tall.

Keep it real.

A solid model would be great, I have access to SolidWorks and Inventor. So I can pretty much handle any format. Thanks!

Oh, yeah. I had forgotten about this post. Josh- how are those models coming?
Well, I can't speak for anyone else but I put the seat all the way back and my knees straddle either side of the steering wheel. It works out extremely well for when you must eat on the road or do the obligatory arms in the air with the top down, as I can steer with my knees.

Pope, you won't do! :D If I tried steering with my knees the car would slow down. I hardly have enough leg to reach the pedals as it is. :?
