Prototype Bumper Blocks-another alternative

Post by So Cal Mark »

While our Abarth-style bumper blocks are in the works, I've been experimenting with another style. Here are photos of the prototype. Personally, I think the round style fits better with the theme of the front end; especially with our round light kit. On the green car, I chose to mount them inboard of the old bumper mounts, leaving the light kit in the bumper mount hole. On the blue car, the block covers the original bumper mount hole.
These will be fiberglass blocks, pretty much ornamental to comply with various states' bumper laws. The center hole could accomodate either a reflector or led light, but will come with a plug to fill the hole. Let me know your thoughts

I think they look pretty good. The simplist solutions are usually the best. On the blue car is there any way to connect that bumperette to the bumper shock mount? Possibly cut off the tangs on the end of the shock, weld a nut on in the center and use a stainless screw with an escushion washer to secure the rubber bumper through that hole to the end of the shock. I guess it would have to stick out further or the hole opened up so if compressed it does not push in the valance. Is that rubber piece solid or does it have a hollowed out backside?

it's not solid but has inside braces to hold the mounting bolt. The shock mounts would need to be modified to use the block on them

I dunno, Mark. They kinda look like...well, I don't know exactly what they look like, but I think I like the original style bumper blocks better.

they are quite different, but less intrusive than the Abarth style blocks IMHO

Maybe a picture from a bit farther away with the whole front end of the car would give a better view. It's hard to determine what the overall look would be from close up.

Mark, thinking on these. Could they be painted or molded in some standard Fiat colors? Then they would be there but not as visible as an add-on.

Then there are pervert thoughts of tassels from the bolt hole.

the blocks will be fiberglass, so they can be painted any color you wish (please, no crackle paint). Tassles would be a good aid to determine air flow at the front of the car. If you can make them spin in opposite directions, you get brownie points and a featured youtube video

"If you can make them spin in opposite directions, you get brownie points and a featured youtube video" well....How about two small electric motors with one wired backwards, or even a modified wiper linkage. I got the motors and an extra linkage, just send me the bumpers and I'll make the video.

It would have to be chrome tassells or red white and blue little propellers. Ahhhh remembering the good old days.

My $.02...not a fan. But I probably need to see a pic of the whole front end, not just a closeup. I like the Abarth look myslef, but sometimes change takes a while to grow on me.
