I'm a new owner of a 1979 Fiat 124 Spider 2L and need to source a 'Certificate of Conformity' / 'Type Approval' certificate to help with registering it in my home country - my car was originally sold in the USA, not surprisingly.
I've tried Fiat direct, but am not getting any response.....
Anybody have a copy of the relevant type approval document or can point me to where I can get one for a '79 US Federal Spec car?
Any help or suggestions welcome.

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for, however you can request the "Certificate of Origin" directly from FCA. I know others have used this to help import their car to different countries. They are quick to respond when you fill out the application form online.

Ooh, useful! Thank you very much for pointing me to that - I'll fill that in and see what comes back. Good recommendation.

Re: Certificate of Conformity / Type Approval - where from?
A Certificate of Conformity COC is definitely not the same as a Certificate of Origine!
The COC is a document that states your car is matching the European type approval of this vehicle type. It’s a recto verso document and delivered with modern cars since about 15 years now. In the 70s or 80s this document didn’t exists!
Depending in which country you’re living there could exist another document that’s referring to a National type approval of the vehicle type. In this case your local Stellantis importer should help you. Depending in which country you want to register the Fiat i could maybe bring help.
Another important thing is the VIN number. For US cars, the original VIN (vehicle identification number) is different than the “stamped” number in the chassis (located under the engine hood). This because of US fed request a codification in the VIN. That’s why you’ll find 2 different VIN on the car: the “US VIN” on the identification plate at the drivers door (and also at the windscreen and also on the identification plate under the engine compartiment and also on the Title), and the “Factory VIN” stamped right behind the distributor. Having 2 VIN’s could confuse local authorities and that’s why Fiat importer can deliver you a statement which matches both VIN’s. See picture here below. (It’s an Alfa but same document i have for my Fiat). Hope this can help you.
