Transmission mounting dimensions needed for unusual engine swap.

Post by BammBamm »

I need to get the transmission dimension from engine mount hole to mount hole And dimension to the input shaft. A friend gave me a Honda J35A4 engine (3.5l -260hp). It looks like it will fit so I need to make a adapter plate, modified flywheel and flywheel spacer. Once I have good dimension, I can have t he adapter and spacer water jet cut and the flywheel machined. Anybody have some factory drawings?

Sorry, I can't help with the factory drawings. Just a thought: while I'm intrigued by the thought of 260 HP in a spider, would the rest of the drivetrain be able to handle it? Transmission, clutch, u-joints, differential, engine mounts, crossmember, etc? Or were you going to upgrade those as well?

I have serious doubts the rest of the drive train will handle it but I wont know until i blow them up. Anticipating having to upgrade to miata parts.

Ambitious project. I want to see this when done.

I do have an extra Fiat trans sitting in my garage, could try to measure.

@OP

I can send you an empty 124 spider transmission if you want. There are no shop drawings afaik, you'll have to measure and make your own.
