Hi. I'm upgrading the stock 80 spider carb to a 32/36 DFEV, and Single plane intake from 1800cc. My skills are limited. I have removed old carb and intake. Need to replace old gas lines. Question is I know I need to keep the canister. But what about the Gulp Vavle? Or do they work together. I heard there is something I need to make a plate or something out of aluminum to block off near the manifold. Is that the intake manifold or exhaust? Anyone have a photo of that location I need to block off. Thanks for any help.

Hi Bob,

Recently did a manifold change and some de-emission work on my '75. Would you mind uploading some pics of the parts you're referring to? Namely the gulp valve. That should help with your question.

Bob,

I have done this on my '79.
assuming you will not need to pass a smog test, you can just completely get rid of a bunch of stuff. I "get" to keep mine.

To answer the head question. There is a passageway through the front of the block where exhaust gasses pass to the EGR. I blocked mine on the exhaust side where the pipe from the manifold goes into the head. A thin, approx 1" round piece will work fine, probably could cut a piece out of old exhaust man gasket. bolt the pipe fitting back in and it's plugged.
no need to worry about the intake side, (now open when using the single plane manifold.

you can lose the gulp valve and all the rest of the smog vac lines: there is nowhere to hook these up on your new set up.

the 32/36 also does not have a return fuel line fitting. you will need a fuel filter with the 3rd 1/4" return port. Lots out there:
5/16th feed, 1/4" return https://autoricambi.us/fuel-filter-carb ... turn-line/

you will want to open the top of the carb and reset the float: often wrong from factory. Pierce Manifolds has a good guide for this: https://www.piercemanifolds.com/

A little modification of the crankcase vent hose and you can attach to new air filter housing.

you will also need to fab a bracket for you oil dipstick tube. Image

There may be more but this is a start

If you upgrade your carb it's a good opportunity to remove some of the smog stuff. Keeping the canister is more source of problems in old cars than an efficient system ...
