Belt Guide???

Post by rodo »

Seriously? $50+ for that daft bit of plastic that guides the seat belt through the rear seat? Has no one scanned one of these to make something cheaper? Or some alternative? besides removing the rear seat? Of all the things I do NOT want to spend on for this car..

It would be pretty easy to fabricate something like this. Sadly it's also $50 if you buy it.

Right, trying to avoid the $100+ to replace those crumbling 40 year old guides. But scanning isn't quite that simple. With help from someone who knows 3-D printers, I tried scanning with an optical scanner and printing. Meh. The shape is quite specific and the optical scanners (ie: iphone) doesn't capture all the subtleties. Needs a digital/laser scanner and those are way more expensive so less common. But it just takes one person to make the digital model, then share it, and we are all good to go. I'd give it a go...if there were a digital scanner nearby.

Right, so reply to Paul C - that is an optical scanner. Those are with an iphone. Super easy. They can't pick up small details. Need a digital/laser scanner. Those are, I was told, about seven grand. So...harder to come by.

Reply to Byran - sorry mate, not that belt guide. The dumb one that goes into the rear seat. Used ones are typically dried out and crumbly.

How about:

I know it says out of stock, but I've worked with Midwest-Bayless before and they're pretty good about trying to find specific parts for me when they come across them. Can't hurt to call, and most of their used parts are in pretty reasonable shape.
