Production figures of the Fiat 124 Spider

Post by rdv »

Hello everyone

During the last research in the german "the big Spider book" I noticed again the official FIAT anniversary photo, which is supposed to show the 200,000th Spider.
Image

But how could this work, when the known sources write mostly of about 198,000 Spiders. In order to get to the bottom of the matter and to approach the true production number, the worldwide Spider registry can be used. To do this, it is important to know that FIAT has performed sequential numbering across types. The BS/BS1 Spiders follow directly to the AS, the CS/CS1/CSA directly or even overlap to the BS1 etc. However, Italian was counted and there are gaps in numbering (e.g. for a new manufacture year).

In order to limit these gaps, the vehicle identification, chassis or serial numbers in the registry, which now includes more than 14,600 vehicles, were evaluated in increments of 100. Some gaps seem to exist, many of which are probably due to a lack of documented vehicles.

Hereby I need your help: Who owns or knows vehicles or has documents about vehicles that can close the gaps? Any hint on this is welcome! Please contact: fahrzeugregister@fiatspider.de or directly via the website at:
https://www.fiatspider.de/der-spider/registry

The current gaps in vehicle identification numbers between known numbers (presumably official gaps in bold):
124AS00019xx (0001885 – 0002061)
124AS00053xx (0005250 – 0005421)

HI
and thank you for your VIN number. Any chance to get some more informations about the car? Color combination, your county (in CA?), a picture would be great (for documentation: Before and after restoration :D )

If interested, we know various car from same manufacture date (09-10/77) and nearly same VIN number 124CS101300xx.
Just have a look here:

Good luck to you and your car!
