I would like to get rid of as much of the emissions crap as I can. It I am not (yet) swapping out the carb or manifold or anything. What can I take out and what do I needs to plugged, etc.
I have seen a lot of threads explaining what can be removed as part of other upgrades, I am wondering what I can remove if I don’t do any upgrades now.
I am a bit of a novice and pictures would help a ton!
Any threads or websites that you can point me to, or any other help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Well, if you are not ready to change out the carb and manifold, etc, it may not make sense to dig into this.
I also have a "79. A lot of emissions crap on these.
I pulled all the smog off: air pump, old manifold/carb, blocked the egr. have it all ready to go for the next smog visit.
I have the flat plane manifold and Weber 32/36. fairly easy swap (will need to adjust the carb); just take pics so you know where things go back just in case.
Well tuned, I am one who believes this can run as clean without all that stuff.

this is the conversion with the Empi carb; another $100 and you get the Weber (from AR) you may find the manifold on ebay. if looking for the Weber carb: watch out for the Chinese copies.
bottom line: save your money and do it all when reaady

The PVC from below the intake manifold goes to the new air cleaner. the other coming from the middle of the head, you can plug. AR carries the plugs I believe. I tool the "threaded part" (some kind of air valve) to Napa auto parts and matched it with a plug. easy.
