I've had no complaints/issues over the last 4 years with the EZ-Cool/two layer EVA foam/carpet combo I used. Spouse reports no "hot feet" from the floor, and since we drive top down 90% of the time, sound deadening is not an issue.

Thanks to an injured knee, I managed to wear a hole in the driver's side door frame carpeting over those 4 years, from dragging my foot across the carpet. Decided to replace it this past spring, and was happy to have all the old carpet release from the foam with very little tearing from the spray adhesive. Replaced the carpet with a set from A/R, after Csaba told me about their new supplier. Fits perfectly, much better material than the prior set, and jute backed on the main floor pieces. Knee also got fixed a year ago, so no more dragging!

The EZ Cool and EVA foam's pretty light; I suspect maybe they added 10 pounds, if that, to the vehicle.

+1 on EZ Cool, inexpensive, light and works well at thermal insulation, but just ok for noise, since it is not heavy or dense enough to really dampen the low frequencies. I used it in my '80.

Thanks for the advice, all. I have ordered my ez cool for the bottom and some super cheap-o (synthetic) jute for atop that. I'll post how it works when I'm done.

this is what I used. I agree, this stuff can get very expensive this is reasonable and I could do 2 cars for what I received.
so far so good. used Pella window flashing (adhesive) for the seams: lowes or depot.

I used roof insulation on my MGB and will do the same on the two Spiders I am working on. Much much less expensive than the real deal and very effective.

Hey all, my ez cool is going in nicely. Was wondering if it is worth it to cover the rockers with it. (I mean the part inside the car, of course, not the exterior rocker.) Not a source of heat. But if I don't hit it with the ez cool and jute will my carpet fit right?

Everywhere you put it will help. Keep in mind all the radiant heat coming off fresh asphalt.

Anywhere you put the insulation that ends up too tick, you can simply remove it. Better to trim a bit away but have max coverage than to skip a whole area.

For sake of variety, I'll also mention that 3M offers sound deadening pads (10X) which has OEM matching diamond emboss. It is fantastic stuff to work with and looks factory. I bought mine from amazon, have seen on ebay as well. Was delivered 2 day after purchase and it is made if France! lol :D https://www.amazon.com/3M-08840-Sound-D ... ation&th=1

Oof, but that is $25 for 500x500mm; I paid $38 (incld shipping) for 40sqft of ez cool. Keep it cheap, keep it cool.

In other carpet news...I dug out the old pieces of the original red carpet, dusted them off, and have discovered that either I am missing a section or the front pieces, those directly in front of the passenger/driver seats, are very short. I can't find any images of this on other cars. (Mine is an '81.) Looks like there could have been another bit of carpet that is for the section in the footwell closest to the firewall. If there was not supposed to be one...uh, I've got nothing. I notice that new carpet kits feature much longer sections, pieces that go all the way under the pedals.

UPDATE - Talked with PO today and he said that originally the carpet pieces in front of the seats ended abruptly but were continued with rubber (attached!) that continued up under the pedals! Anyone have a pic of these? Seems so weird! Was this saving money for FIAT???

I've been comparing the EZ Cool to some similar products that are self adhesive. Any benefits or drawbacks for these? Seems like they would possibly hold better than needing to use a spray adhesive. Thoughts?

FWIW, I am having no troubles at all cutting and spray glueing the ez cool. Cuts with scissors and/or xacto. I've glued bits down and then trimmed them to fit more. It sure seems no worries as most of it is horizontal so...where is it going to go? I glued more on the vertical rear and then again way up under the foot wells by the firewall. it is not hard. Of course, the glue is probably giving me some cancer. The part I'm sorting through now is what to do with the wires that run along the driver's seat. I found a good solution searching the site under "carpet install": the member put jute on the top and sides of the rocker and then set the wires in their holders so they were seated at the corner. Carpet on top and should be plenty of space. But I may have that wrong as the fumes from the spray glue are making thoughts a bit fuzzy...

Any thought of using double faced tape?

Spray works really well, but I would recommend the LOW strength stuff. I used the high strength spray, and God help me if this ever needs to come out. So far so good, no floods, no rainstorms with the top left down, etc.

I agree, the spray is just way easy. But I did not think about the headaches of ever having to remove it.

Update on carpets: I was out picking bits off my donor car today and thought to have a look at the carpets. Yep, the carpet part in front of the seat stops just in front of the pedals with an unfinished edge. Beyond that was a rubber mat with an attachment at the top of the firewall, above the pedals. Yes, if you are wondering, it is hideous. I would have grabbed that rubber mat but it was worn and torn beyond use. Hm, so now I've got really attractive aluminum ez cool going up behind my pedals and a 1/2 carpet floorboard. I guess I can buy floormats to cover the carpet and, I'm assuming, go up the firewall.
