my 79 2L

Post by BSmith79 »

here is my 79
hopefully some interesting eng changes soon
still formulating a plan

My first performance part sort of---short throw shifter that's going to be installed tomorrow.

Timing belt kit also
zrod amsoil oil change
New wiper linkage
Allisons bumper delete turn signals

For reference material I have
how to maintain the italian roadster manual
fiat service manual
gonna order guy crofts book

motor might look like this
dual weber 44 idf and manifold to suit
Cams 40/80 80/40 or guy croft recommended
Cam indexing pulleys
The current 4-2-1 exh
Larger valves
some porting
cylinder heads might go to Guy or just follow his book
ill have to figure out ignition since i wont have a port for vacuum advance with this set up. Maybe i can go with manifold vacuum or buy an aftermarket
Stage 2
Car has 86000 miles and currently runs good so may wait and do the rebuild with 10 to 1 and an allisons header, silencing duties not figured out yet but ill go with recommendations
First step is gathering up the parts im hoping to get some good used parts whenever I can and save money for the build and tuning that follows

Still have other things as as far as maint like front end rebuild --drives fine but the rubber is showing its age
suspension maybe some new progressive springs and konis or other good shocks
rebuild the brake sys

Wow... Very nice looking car. I really like that color and saw one like it for sale in NH this summer. Was out of my $ range though w/ <20k miles.
Good luck on your projects!

Nice car BSmith.

I'm about to start a rather similar build with an 1800.

I already have the IDFs and the manifold - not a bolt on job.
