So I'm about to dip into the kids collage fund and build my dream engine (2L).
So I need advice........
My hope is to make around 130-140 hp
I will be upgrading all the standard performance parts like 95amp alternator, Hp gear-reduction starter, lightened flywheel, free flow exhaust, aluminum rad etc.
My question is....... Pistons? Cam? 1800 head?
Basically what is the best way to reach my goal?
This is for fun around town maybe the odd track day and driving our amazing mountain roads here in the rockies.

Pistons designed for 10:1 compression or higher.
2L or 1800 head but ported with large valves.
Set of aggressive street cams.

FI or carb?
Whereabouts in the Rockies?
Don't forget the adjustable cam wheels and electronic ignition.
Lots of threads and opinions here on the forum.

Do you have a budget? Easy to spend $4000.00 + for an additional bump in HP. Re-bore to 85mm pistons, here $100.00 hole, + cost of pistons. say you use Mark's headers and exhaust, lightened flywheel, 1800 or 2L FI head that has been worked over with new valves...perhaps $1000.00 Gasket and seals and new bearings.... Adjustable cam wheels a must with after market cams and everything all degreed in properly. If FI then injectors cleaned and flow tested.
A FI system is great & reliable as is a set of duel down draughts if you have the skill set to keep them in tune.
I tweeked my engine ( FI) so it pulls nicely around 3200 rpm and up but the most enjoyment has come from upgrading the suspension and wheels/tires.
I like the idea of upgrading the brakes as well with one of the big brake swaps out there.

+1
re: performance builds, I would have been much better off selecting a single vendor, and having him recommend and supply all internal and external parts.
You'll also need a roll bar, helmet, and perhaps arm restraints for track days.

+1 on selecting a vendor and having them help you through the entire build process.
I did not do this and as a result have had a few headaches to deal with. Nothing that couldn't be sorted with some effort but headaches nonetheless.
