odd valuation

Just checked nada for valuation of the vehicles due to pending divorce, says my 75 124 is worth 26k. right.
looking for a better service...

it depends whether you own it or the other party owns it!

maybe, just maybe Hemmings has a tool. or, a survey of recent ebay sales mixed with CL listings & club/forum listings is actually pretty reasonably scientific evidence. Doubt you could sell a 75 124 for $26K unless it's really nice & there's nearly $20K worth of something else in the trunk. The classic car insurance companies may have guidance also. $26? could that have been a 2017 124?

Friend of mine sold a "very clean" 76 two years ago for $14K with a rebuilt engine, dual carbs, upholstery new, chrome re done and lots of dazzle!~ Great show car.

NADA is always high. It's generally the highest of the three (Edmonds, KBB, NADA) for newer cars.

Massachusetts uses your purchase price or low NADA, whichever is higher, to calculate sales tax when you buy a car. I bought my '74 for $3000 and got charged sales tax on $6000 because that was low NADA. Clearly the NADA was wrong because I paid $3000 for a car that was probably at the mid point.

I had a good solid, no rust '81 I sold a little while ago. NADA says low retail is $6475 and mid is $14,500

I had it on the local market for two years at $4500 before I finally sold it for $2500.

I had to have a professional appraisal for my vintage replacement insurance, thru State Farm. It was appraised at $22,200!
It's a nice car, 45,000 miles and '0' issues. Even in it's excellent condition, I honestly think it would be a frosty day in hell before anyone (except State Farm) would pay half of that for it!

That said, our thoughts stay on the forum and we all shall play it up to the insurance companies in order to keep the indeminities high

I have mine insured for $15k for the last 4 years. I am raising it to $18k this year. My criteria is what would it cost to replace the car without me spending a 1000 hours on it. Being on the west coast, I think I can probably find a VERY nice spider for $8-10k with the remaining $8k for the custom work.

what you just said is the practical aspect of it. When I was thinking of selling my '71, I figured it would cost me easily about $12-14K to replace it if I had to do so immediately, but I was asking about 10K. On the other hand, in terms of a divorce case evaluation, I had an attorney tell me once that valuing stuff like that (cars, musical equipment, tools) is more along the lines of what would you get for it if you posted it up for sale & needed to sell it fast for fast cash....same car as above, probably $3500....

Low Retail = $6,150 (Daily Driver)
Average = $13,900 (Show Car)
High = $26,200 (Museum Concourse Restoration)

good luck. I had to argue that rather than owning a "collection of Italian sports cars" I owned a number of 124s, an X1/9, a Brava & some parts cars....and that was back around 2001 & a total BS task of attorney harassment that collectively cost my kids about $650/hr to get the JDs to shut the hell up. Now, THAT would be the more appropriate valuation to perform!

Of course one has to be mindfull that on a private sale you can expect to get about half of whats listed as the dealer price or just a few percentage points over the trade-in value.
