We're doing a 2L performance engine swap into a 1973 Spider. One of many custom features is an electric water pump which eliminates the thermostat and hp loss from the mechanical water pump. The engine features forged 10:1 pistons, 285 street cams, ported head with large valves, billet aluminum flywheel, billet aluminum crank pulley, billet aluminum adjustable cam gears, Computronix ignition and a 95amp alternator.

Very nice Mark. What's going on with the cold air intake? It doesn't look like the one on your website.

I had to shorten it since the battery is under the hood on a 73

Very nice. Can you publish any dyno data?
Re: Performance 2L in a 73 Spider
I hadn't planned on dyno runs with it, that would be the customer's decision

HI Mark,
Looks great.
Would love to hear more about the electric water pump install. I'm sure there any many of us out here that would love to get rid of the problematic thermostat and regain some extra HP in the process. Any hints, tricks or tips and resources would be appreciated.
Thanks
John

+1 on that! Interested. Any estimate as to how much parasitic loss the belt driven pump is contributing?

Re: Performance 2L in a 73 Spider
Does the 73 have a 4.10 rear? How do you find that combination is to.drive? With the built 2l it must be pretty responsive.

I've always preferred the earlier final drives with the 2L.

the 73 should have a 10/43 final drive

Re: Performance 2L in a 73 Spider
I doubt its a lot, but these engines are so small every little bit helps. Its like "death by a thousand cuts". Every little "parasite" we can remove helps. For me though, I wouldnt even do fuel injection, it adds to much plumbing on top of the engine. I like the old school look of dual carbs, even though they can be a bit testy and are not as good for HP production as FI. The Mona LIsa dont look good with a mustache!
