ANSA exhaust vs OEM-style

Our '70 Spider needs a new exhaust system. I'm weighing my choice between the ANSA system and a factory-style single outlet. I like the look of the ANSA rear muffler, but I'm concerned that the dual outlets won't fit through the factory cutout on the lower valence, and thus will have to hang low. I'd appreciate feedback from those of you that have the ANSA muffler, including pics.

They do fit have it on my 72. Although on close inspection... it does look a bit odd.

That said, I would recommend not buying and Ansa twin tip for at least 2 weeks. (carefully placed hint).

Here's a pic of my setup, if you like. It is decidedly NOT an ANSA model, but a fairly free-flowing aftermarket muffler (I have no cat nor mid-resonator, either) and bought a cheap $20 chromed tip that I slipped over the original single outlet tube. I took an angle grinder to it to slightly cut it and had it welded not stick too far out, then painted it with crinkle paint. It's slightly off centre, but not too bad.



It's unlikely the route you want to go, but still shows how a twin-tip may not quite fit the cutout in the valence unless it sticks far enough out. I've got a '74; it was the last year of small bumpers so they likely stick out further than yours would since I have the mid-model year addition style outriggers (i.e. the posts/tubes) that are particular to '74s. I imagine your bumpers are more flush.

I got a real deal on the twin-tip ANSA exhaust and decided to modify the cutout in the rear valance to match the twin tips. Now that the paint is on, it looks awesome!

Normally the muffler is not close enough to the body for the cutout to make a difference. It's more of a visual thing.

Mine came with an old Ansa with no resonator (no cats on 68s) that had twin tips curved downward. I found that I could smell exhaust during spirited drives (OK that might have to do with a burning a little oil too). Bought two chrome tips at Princess for $10 each, cut the original tips, and clamped the new ones on. Thought they would rust after a few years but after 10 years on the car, they still shine.
Kinda loud, but as I told one cop, it's a "deer deterrent."

I don't mind the look, but I'l looking forward to checking out what AR has coming....

Love the dual tip look however, ended up going with custom stainless. You can never go wrong with AR
