My little gem has just over 426,000 miles. I remember talking with Mark Allison, the keeper of this forum when ordering Rota wheels about five or so years ago when I had just 375,000 miles on it and said that might be a record. I doubt it because I've done nothing special to get that far. My wife might disagree but plain common sense has ruled my actions.

To the best of my recollection, 290,000 of those miles were done in the Los Angles area during the 80's and early 90's. Moving to Northeast Ohio in 92 changed everything. No driving in the in the spring until two heavy rains have washed the salt from the roads. Changing to synthic 0W 30 Mobile 1 oil (read "bobistheoilguy.com" to understand why. His oil university 101 thru 109 is great information). Understanding ZDDP and why we must be adding it to our cars engines at every oil change without fail. My "ticking" engine hasn't made a sound in years, it just purrs.

Installing a switched relay for the cooling fan when sitting in heavy traffic or in line at Starbucks. Many years ago I posted here the way to go about that for about $20 in parts. Mark Allison also has an adjustable t-stat that would also work well. Sorry for the long response (it could be a lot longer, lol) but I want everyone here driving these beauties forever!!! 500,000 miles will be here before I know it.

Great information. I think my 81 has 178,000 bought it with 133,000 so I don't know if the engine has been reworked. The car has been in snow country much of its life so there have been rust repairs. Anyway wife and I love it.
