Re: 131 Transmission
Are you thinking of using the 131 gearbox in your 83 for road car or race use ?
Are you looking at abarth extyension ?
Thanks
Chuck

Are you looking at abarth extension ? The guy from Europe got it. Why, you have one to sell?

Re: 131 Transmission
I don't have any extra parts but I'm thinking of doing the same thing
131 gearbox in my 84
I would use the abarth extension
I have done some measurements and while the shift lever is more upright than the 124 but it looks like the shift knob is more or less in the same spot
I still have to figure out the drive shaft since I plan to use a 132 rear diff as it also appears stronger

Re: 131 Transmission
I do have a couple of Brava gear boxes. I have used a few Brava gear boxes on heavily modified Spiders and Coupes with over 200 hp. With slight modifications you will have the strongest and best gear ratios. In fifth with a 69 Coupe and 430 to 1 diff gear ratios you are reving less than 3000 rpm at 100 km/h. Please send me a pm if you are interested.

Re: 131 Transmission
As 4th is 1:1, with a 4.3:1 diff you'll be doing 4300rpm @ 100kph, I'd certainly like to know how to drop to 3000rpm by shifting to 5th.marioricambi wrote:In fifth with a 69 Coupe and 430 to 1 diff gear ratios you are reving less than 3000 rpm at 100 km/h.

Re: 131 Transmission
you'll achieve 3000rpm at 110kph with a 131 box in 5th (I think they are 0.82) and a diff ratio of 3.4
Cheers David

Re: 131 Transmission
not all 131 gearboxes have same ratios
can't tell you exact ratios from head, but all have 1/1 4th gear and fifth varies 0.78, 083, 0.88.
i don't know which ratios came in 131's sold in US, but over here in europe, these gearboxes came in all 3 versions, depending on year and model of the car. they were not used only in 131, but also in sedans - 132 and argenta.
131 racing, "sporty" 2 door, had closest ratios and 0.88 fifth gear, while 132 diesel had 0.78 fifth gear. all of these gearboxes are interchangeable, using different bellhousings depending on engine type. also, all of them can be fitted with "abarth" remote shifter, or one that's absolutely identical without abarth cast on top.
131 diffs came in 3.4, 3.7, 3.9, 4.1 and 4.3 ratios, again depending on engine and body type. these are interchangeable with 124 spider, axle with bolts and cover plate on the back.
3.4 - automatic all engines and diesel with 5sp manual
3.7 - 2 liter DOHC 4door manual 5sp
3.9 - 1.4 & 1.6 liter SOHC and DOHC, and 131 racing 2liter dohc, all manual 5sp
4.1 - 1.3 & 1.6 OHV, maybe also late wagon versions, 4 and 5sp manuals
4.3 - 1.3liter OHV wagon 4 & 5sp manual
another popular upgrade for 124's and 131's in europe, a cure for "chocolate diff syndrome", is installing rear axle off 132/argenta sedans. these rear axle's are much stronger in all aspects and extremely rarely go bad in any way. they were meant to be used with 2 liter engines from beginning, unlike 124/131 axles. installing these involves some welding and cutting on the axle housing. lower control arms, springs and shocks are in same position, but upper control arms are in different position and there's no panhard attachment bracket on them.
available ratios are 3.4, 3.7, 3.9, 4.1
some are equipped with drums, some with discs. ones with drums are easily modified to discs, using bolt on parts from fiat parts bin, and ones with discs use 227mm discs, same as 124 spider, and calipers that are same as 124 on the outside but have larger diameter pistons, 34mm
again, above mentioned calipers are bolt on to all 124's
