history of the Fiat Spider developement

Im just curious about the design history of the Spider. I know Pinifarina it came out with it the same year they discontinued the Ferrari 275 GTS. The spider sure does look like the little brother to it. So many similar design styles. Does anyone know the story?

So based on that link i looked up the designer. He worked on several of the GT series Ferraris and a bunch of famous car. So it seems clear to me they are related.
