Turn Signal Cancellation Pin

1981,2000. What is the reason for that small plastic directional cancellation pin being SPRING loaded? Only thing I can think of is that the distance between it and the hole it goes into could vary when the steering wheel nut was tightened down. That nut has a lot of tightening force and could easily break that pin off if the distance to the pin hole, which is a blind hole, was a tad too short. Spring loaded the length of the pin could vary and the distance issue would not be as critical. Anyone know for sure? RB

I spent the weekend working on this.

From having the wheel on and off several times, i will say that having it spring loaded helps get the wheel on the shaft without having to have the pin right on the hole. Once the wheel is on , you rotate it a little each way and the pin will seat itself in the hole.

I'm guesing so you can get it in without taking the hub adapter off? I just went through this and posted my dilema which was a missing pin. I acutally drilled a hole through the hub and pounded a steel rod down through the hole. It works, I'm guessing it's a permanent fix and now over engineered.
