Water pump leak at gasket

Post by DaveMarcotte »

So I installed a new water pump and gasket along with my complete engine rebuild. After getting the new coolant in I notice a small puddle starting on the floor under the waterpump. It appeared to be coming at the seem with the pump gasket and block. Removed and reinstalled with new gasket and some gasket sealant. Feel her back up and there it was again. I slow trickle!! Any thought or suggested appreciated. Looking forward to getting back on the road.

Try using a razor blade to remove all of the old gasket, then sand or file the mating surfaces and use a THIN layer of gasket sealant evenly applied to the gasket/ surface.

it is pretty common for the water pump leak to be the pipe for the heater core. The pipes flange is often corroded and pitted also it has a tendency to distort so it is not flat.

Whatever you do, don't try to torque it that extra 1/2 turn.. those small bolts can shear off with very little force..

Ask me how I know

I ordered a new one for autoricambi. They didn't supply the first one. They suggested one that comes with a lifetime warranty and claim its bullet proof. I'd like to take a moment to say this vendor autoricambi has been nothing but helpful and they're customer services is top notch.

autoricambi water pump did the trick. Don't skimp on 10 bucks, this one is clearly of better quality

Did you get A/R's high volume pump, or just their OEM style?
