Cup Holders

I like it too, more for the armrest. Can you take a snapshot of how it's mounted? Please.

I apologize for the delay in sending these pics. I have been having computer problems, but here is the way the arm rest is mounted. I don't know about all models but on my '77 the female part of the seat belt is secured to the driveshaft hump so that is where I mounted the arm rest. I hope the pics are clear enough.

Looks doable. How do the wooden legs that it pivots on hold up? Did you have to get longer seat belt anchor bolts?

The legs are actually separate from the box so that legs would be strong. The legs are attached to the box with metal brackets. I did have to get longer anchor bolts. The whole thing does not pivot once it is attached although I guess it could if there was no back seat.

Thanks for the images and info. It makes for a good future project. It's annoying having to leave my elbow in the air and sometimes i catch myself leaving my hand on the shifter to compensate.

Yeah on our cars the worst thing you can do is rest your hand on the shifter. I don't understand stand why they didn't design an arm rest. When I was in college I had a 57 MGA and it had an arm rest. Just saying. I wish mine was a little longer. I am thinking about re-making it. The problem is I will have to call the upholstery people out in California to get more vinyl to match my interior.

I went out driving for a bit this morning and I really like my cup holders. The work great and when not used they are invisible. And it only took me 20 years to think of it.

Y'all are wasting a lot of time and effort putting cup holders where you don't really need them. We need something large enough to hold a beer mounted in the engine bay where we spend all our time.

What are you trying to say that all you have to do is put the cap back on then put the bottle wherever? Craziness

Just remember that the more fluids you take in the more often you'll be stopping to let them back out.

I have mixed feelings about cup holders and such when driving a stick with manual steering anyways. They can be convenient but you could also just take care of that business at fuel stops and not have the distraction of a beverage available while your driving keeping both hands free for the wheel and the stick.

As for the armrests with manual steering the only time you should have your elbow close to an armrest is when your reaching for the shift lever otherwise its both hands on the wheel the rest of the time. Playing Devils advocate here but when driving an old school sports car there should be no resting of the arms while its in motion.

I started with a piece of 2 x 4 and made an angle cut to get the correct angle for the cup holder.

isn't the bag mounted in the engine compartment supposed to be filled with beer? it's even got a motor on the bottom to help get the beer out quickly.

The armrest is also a storage compartment although not very deep but holds my driving gloves some other useful items.
