JJ - After you apply one of the methods to get it open please repair, align and lubricate the trunk latch. When things start to act fussy they are giving us fair warning that its time to take action before we have a complete failure.

On mine the previous owner let it go so long that the latch itself failed and jammed up internally so badly that the simple methods of releasing it did not work so that they ended up having to remove the back seat, cut an access hole in the double steel panel behind the seat and unbolt the latch using a long extension on a socket wrench.

When you get it to open fix whats broken, needs lubricating, etc before it gets more serious. I plan on welding in sheet metal to repair the ragged holes they cut through in order to get the trunk open. You can't imagine how irritating it is to see the hacked hole to the right of the battery every time I open the trunk. I will keep up with maintaining the latch so a repeat performance is less likely to happen.

Its amazing what a few spritz of white lithium, graphite, etc along with a bit of preventative TLC can do to prevent these types of problems from ever occurring.

What worked for me was to push down as hard as I could on the trunk without actually denting it, while turning the key. Then once it finally opened I sprayed the lock mechanism with WD40 and thoroughly cleaned it. Now it's fine.
