Mystery hole in shift plate
Does anyone know why the small hole is in my shift plate? It's from a 77. I've never had it all together yet, so I'm not sure why the extra hole. When I bought it the PO had lots of parts and info, but not sure why this hole is here. It did have dealer intalled AC, not sure if that expains it.

Are you talking about the sheet metal plate that screws in the top of the transmission tunnel that the shifter goes through? There is a smallish hole towards the firewall from the shifter that is for the connector and wires from the the reverse light switch on the tranny. It plugs into a connector under the dash.

I can't get the picture to work, but it's in the wood panel. Basically I have a hole in the wood piece almost directly above the hole in the metal plate.

OK, that makes sense. So no, that would not be for the reverse switch. I'm guessing the PO had some sort of gauge or something bolted to the wood cover. I don't know of anything stock that goes through the wood, except the shifter.

My PO drilled a hole there for a fan switch.
