Lower Rubber Bumper in Door Jam
1981. 2000. What is the function of this lower bumper? I can't seem to to see any use for it. Shouldn't the striker plate be all that is needed ? I have not seen this set up on any other car.

Re: Lower Rubber Bumper in Door Jam
If you are referring to the triangle shaped piece, it is to align the door with the striker when the door is closed, If a door is slightly out of alignment this shifts them to the correct position.

The rubber bumper not only aligns but also protects the door from bounce while you drive. It's protection from the notorious cracks that develop at the door hinge, both on the door and also inside the cavity in the A-frame.
