Crazy asking prices?
It's Spring fever. People are getting their Spiders out for sale and trying to get top dollar:
A beautiful car with the Volumex replica wheels, twin IDFs and a real looker with a yellow and black paint job.
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/cit ... 1142917417
CA$25,000
Wow.
Here's another. It's a red beauty with a complete restoration:
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/cit ... 1155188452
CA$26,500
Yikes!
Here's more my league -- a "cottage car" '78 original owner that needs some TLC:
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/cit ... 1151765649
CA$4,500. With the currency exchange that's probably less than US$3500. Now we're talkin'!!
If I was going to drop $25k for an old car I'd save up another $15K and get a Ferrari 308 or something.

Re: Crazy asking prices?
Concerning your 308:
At a buck/mile in recommended long term maintenance, I'll stick to what we've got- 3 grand worth of maintenance brings us a looong way on our Spiders and it doesn't get devalued by the fact that we work on it ourselves.
Be certain you won't be cruising your 308 to high distance destinations such as FFO.

Prices will come down when the cars don't sell...
On the bright side, vintage Fiat values should rise a bit with the introduction of the new 124 and the more years Fiat is around in North America

Re: Crazy asking prices?
Those are Toronto prices.
Check out what they are willing to pay for a tiny condo with a view of other tiny condos.
Anything is possible in TO, including winning the Stanley cup.

Phaetn, show me that mythical 40K 308... I think you're in for a surprise there as well.

In Canada's market they exist but they're on the low retail part of the scale. Double no thanks.Redline wrote:Phaetn, show me that mythical 40K 308... I think you're in for a surprise there as well.

No kidding those are Toronto prices.
https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/search/ ... s%20spider I've seen equal spiders over the years in Van for $10,000 or less. House prices are about the same if not more as TO and the Canuckle-heads have about the same chance as winning the cup anytime soon. I suspect the $26,500 is an "Andy's Spiders" restoration.
What a nice day here, already 16 C at 9:30 am.....Fiat's insured and washed....home tonight....

I Wonder for how much these 2 Alpha Romeo will go for at auction this spring in Toronto. Results are usually available the following week after auction.

Re: Crazy asking prices?
Well prices must be going up.
I think this is a car I bought in Vancouver about 7 years ago from a lawyer who was quoted $3500.00 to fix a broken head gasket. I bought for $2000.00 brought to Naramata, changed the head gasket one evening, had a cracked fire wall and fixed that & replaced the clutch cable, put some re-finished wheels on it and sold for $4000.00 a couple of months later. That owner had it for sale locally for $4500.00 several years ago. Now asking $7000.00

The car did drive very nice, wife liked it better than my car.

Re: Crazy asking prices?
You see Northerners try to sell them at ridiculously high asking prices for six months to a year with some asking over $10,000. Eventually the asking is dropped to the $3,500 to $5,000 range and they sell for $1,500 to $4,000 depending on condition. Asking isn't getting.narfire wrote:Well prices must be going up.

Re: Crazy asking prices?
Only some U.S. Americans will pay the price for really good rust free examples but outside of the U.S. they will get a proper price.
I may try selling mine here in a few months but I really think I will ship it to Europe for $1000 and have someone sell it there. Most of the good British cars left on containers long ago and now the rest of the good stock will leave too I'm afraid.
You can't even find a good Vega or Pinto because they rusted away long before the Fiats did. I hated them then but I would like one now.
