Where should the oil pressure level indicator be on the dial ?

50 to 71 psi when hot,I have been told
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

I recently heard that it will be lower than that at idle speeds. 50-70 would be higher rpms.

Mine shows 60 psi 'at speed', and 30 psi at idle.

most of the gauges on the older cars read low. (sending unit orifice clogged). mine reads near zero when the car is warm and at idle.

Not zero at idle and hot is good. Should be 40 to 70 running down the road. The gauges, like all the others, are notoriously inaccurate. More just ballpark meters. Also, there is a red light off a separate sensor for zero. If that light doesn't come on or flicker you are probably good.

My oil & volt gauges are both new VDO brand. I first thought that the oil pressure seemed high and so checked it with a manual (direct tube) gauge to find that the readings were the same. :D
