Cross Rod Can this be right?

Post by Nitrate »

1981. 2000. Can it be correct to torque the Cross Rod attaching nuts, which I am assuming is the Panhard Rod, to 58 ft lb? Isn't that going to really squash the the rubber bushings? I've got new bushings all around, the car ladened witth the correct weight and am ready to wrap this but just need to confirm the torque on the Panhard Rod. Help! RB

If you are referring to the panhard rod that attached to the axle at one end and the body at the other, there should be metal bushings inside the rubber bushings. When I replaced mine I used a long threaded bolt, a some large washers and some grease: put a large washer on the bolt, thread the bolt through the bushing, thread the metal bushing (coated in grease/oil) onto the bolt, place another washer on the assembly and then thread a nut onto bolt and crank it down until the metal bushing is in place.
