Muffler mounting point
1981 2000. My stock exhaust set up is catalytic converter, middle muffler , and end muffler. The end muffler is supported on either side by rubber hangers. However, the inlet tube on the end muffler has a metal rod welded to it and that metal rod is attached to the car body. I'm trying to figure out if this is stock. The previous owner had a problem with the emergency brake sheath being burned where it came in close proximity to the exhaust pipe. I'm wondering if he had this rod setup welded on to get addition clearance. None of the diagrams I have seen show this welded on metal rod. Is it Stock or no? RB

Re: Muffler mounting point
Not stock. the exhaust has a angle iron bar that goes from the tranny to the bottom section of the downpipe. the cat has 2 springs to hold it, and finally the muffler has 2 rubber hangers. Nothing else. The e-brake cable will come very close to the exhaust.
You need flex in the exhaust pipe to keep it from cracking when the engine torques with acceleration.
