Question on glove box latches

Post by hayesbd »

Hi all!

Does anyone know if a glove box latch from a 124 sedan (has no provision for a key) will fit on a spider? I would prefer a non-locking glove box to having another key to keep track of.

Thanks,
Brian

If you never lock it then there is no key to worry about. I would just have the existing lock which most likely was changed by a previous owner re-keyed by any local locksmith to match the door locks that way if you want to leave the top down you can have the option of locking the glove box.

Thanks for the reply. I guess my post was not clear. My current latch is toast - the plastic is wallowed out and the pot metal tapped hole is cracked and partially stripped, so I need a new latch. I can get a latch without lock cylinder fairly cheaply (for the 124 sedan) and that's why I was asking.

Thanks,
Brian

Unlikely, as it is a completely different design of glove box door.

Then you should be fine with just getting another same type lock which you can transfer the lock cylinder pins from you original latch to yourself so you won't have another key to deal with. Not that hard to do if you already have a matching lock that's a bit worse for the wear.

I learned to do that myself since like you I really dislike mismatching locks.

So far it looks like Mr Fiat has it for $70 which seems a bit dear for what it is however others have it for $95 and those don't use the same type key as the doors and trunk like the one from Mr Fiat appears to.
