First the particulars: 1973 spider, refurb'd 3 years ago.
It has started to leak gas, after a fillup. The first time it happened, I did not pay close enough attention and had filled up into the tube. After that, the car will leak even when filled to below the filler tube. The dripping does stop, so I believe the problem is not in the tank itself. The dripping is coming off from the frame, under the gas cap and not the tank. I am trying to determine: 1) the filler tube became loose or 2) something else has been messed up. I appreciate all ideas.

Re: Gas leak
There is a filler tube (big one) and an overflow tube (small one). 73 Spider has top-mounted hoses to/from the engine compartment. Inspect all of them; modern fuels are pretty harsh and can deteriorate the old hoses quickly.

I'm with Brad. I put my money on the big rubber tube from the fill tube to the tank. you will need to remove the corner rocker panel to get to it. AR carries a replacement.

Hi FiatJim,
I have the same issue on my '78. Did it turn out to be the filler hose? If no, how did you fix it? Thanks! Scott
