Dipstick swap
I think from posts I've read the answer is yes but if I swap out the tube and long dipstick on my 79 2 liter engine to an earlier (76) short dipstick without a tube will I still get an accurate oil level reading? Can the two be swapped out without "re-calibrating" the markings?

Re: Dipstick swap
Anyone got an early dipstick used? The kind that goes right into the block with no tube.

I'm not sure the pans are the same depth. I ended up customizing my long dipstick by cutting it off and remarking it using the original distances from the seal.

x2 on what azruss posted. You can use the earlier type in the later block, but first check that the oil level is correct using the original type, then install a new seal and old style dipstick. Verify the gauge is still accurate, or mark it anew.

Re: Dipstick swap
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering if someone could give the measurements of the dipstick? I have gotten an 1800 block that was completely disassembled and the dipstick is gone. I'd just buy a new assembly but I can't find them anywhere. I have a dipstick for a 1608 I had, so I was hoping I could use that dipstick. Any chance someone could post up some measurements if the shorter dipstick needs to be trimmed?
