Fitment issues with EBC Greens and Rotors

Post by MrTheEngineer »

Starting to put everything back together on my 79 and ran into a bit of a speed bump. I purchased a set of EBC greens with EBC rotors (both front and rear) but as I was installing everything I noticed the front pads look extremely thick compared to what I removed. Upon attempted installation, the pads will not clear the rotor. I also attempted to fit my old, worn down OEM rotor, but that too was too tight.

Anyone else had this, or a similar issue? Any ideas.

Remove the backing pad or plate from the pads and install, once the braking coating is worn off then re-install the pad or backing plate. This seems to be a common issue with EBC pads.

I left my backing plates off. I think they are anti-squeal plates. I don't get any singing out of my brakes.

those shims are to reduce squeal, they can be removed

That's what you get for using the absolute worst brake pads on the market ;) I think they might be made from compressed saw dust.

(but as other said, shims are just for anti-squeal. A paste can do the same)
