Re: upgrade progression options for a stock 75
Awesome. Looks like I'm gonna go for that 36 ADL.
So then what else will I need?
1/2" spacer and associated gaskets
Linkage from what year?
What other tidbits to make sure my throttle cable plays nice with the new setup?
Can I just swap out can that my throttle cable pulls on from the original 32adfa and slap it on to the 36ADL? good idea? Bad idea? Worst idea ever?

Re: upgrade progression options for a stock 75
As I mentioned before, you should be able to make uses of the stock throttle cable spool with some minor trimming and tweaking.
I did when I converted my 75 from its stock carb to the empi 32/36, and then was able to use the same when I converted to dual Weber idf40s.
If I remember correct, I believe all the Weber throttle shafts use a flat spot to index the throttle linkage.

Thanks Roy. I'll definitely do that then. Know if I need anything else besides the spacer?

Re: upgrade progression options for a stock 75
If I remember right, I think the mod to the cable spool was in having to trim some length off the inside of it so it would fit on the shaft of the new carbs.
The spool is made of plastic by the way so be careful, it is very easily ground and or cut with a dremel tool.
Here is a shot showing the spool on the rear IDF as installed in December of 2013.

Re: upgrade progression options for a stock 75
I tried that once (~10 years ago) and the shaft was not long enough and there was not enough thread engagement on the nut holding the cable spool. Glad to hear that not all are like that, as it's a lot easier to transfer the spool.RoyBatty wrote:As I mentioned before, you should be able to make uses of the stock throttle cable spool with some minor trimming and tweaking....

Actually - AR sell precisely the part you need. It's a valve cover mounting mechanism, and straight rod. You then bend the rod into a lazy "S" to go over the valve cover, around the choke, and onto the short single lever you've got on the carb.

Do you know if the throttle cable I have is long enough to reach the linkage or do I need a throttle cable from a different year?

You don't need the bellcrank assy.
I'm just sayin'...
Based on how long the cable on my 75 is, it wouldn't be long enough to reach the bellcrank on the rocker cover.

Roy, would you happen to have a close up of how you tweaked the cable spool from the adfa to adapt it to the IDF's or that other carb you mentioned?

Re: upgrade progression options for a stock 75
Take a look at the image I posted above and compare it to your spool.
I think you'll see where I shortened the spool on the side facing the carburetor. It's not hard to do at all and leaves you a lot of flexibility in future mods.

Take a look at this thread for ADL linkage

Edit: Roy - it looks like you're activating your twins from the right hand side? I'm about to go to duals too - and having read and read I found some weber guidance to only pull them from the center so as to place even pressure on the bushings etc.

Re: upgrade progression options for a stock 75
I had been told that by other Fiat "experts",
But my years of mechanical experience and led me to believe that when properly set up, where you link to them should be of no consequence. Those throttle shafts are made of metal, not rubber.
I have been running them like this since I installed them in December 2013. No muss, no fuss, and never have as of yet had an issue with loosing synch or anything else. I drive my Spider at least 300 miles/week, and not gently either.
Sometimes, you just need to study things and make your own decisions.
Besides, I've always been a guy that doesn't like hearing, "you can't do that".

The BEAST has been ordered!
On a related note, after looking for "rebuild" kits for this carb, I was unable to find anything. Does anyone know where I can find one? I realized that the one I just ordered is rebuilt and ready to go, but I always like to keep a kit on hand just in case or for the future, so to speak.
