quick question: Audi TT seats?

Post by rjbaum12 »

Has anyone ever tried Audi TT seats in a Spider? :?:
1977 Fiat Spider (driveable project...)
1970 Fiat Spider (the next project!)
2013 Toyota Tundra (for hauling projects)
2004 Lowe Suncruiser Jamaica pontoon boat (for project days off)
and a golf cart, just because!

Your biggest concern will be with the seat width and height of the seat pad.. In the spider the seat rails are part of the floor pan so that causes some limitations unless you are willing to remove them. In my spider I removed the seat rails and used the ones that came with my seats which is a lot easier to work with. Any way this is what I have found. Once you remove the seat rails the whole job becomes easier. My seats are from an 89 firebird..

Cheers!

Rob, when you removed the rails did you have to reinforce the floor pan at the bolt points?

As with any seat conversion you want to check the height with you in it to see if the top will give adequate clearance and to check your sight line thru the windshield. If you have a line on some quality Audi seats I say try it, if it doesn't work someone will take them off your hands on Craigslist.

I reenforced the front bolts by adding length of square tubing from door jam to the tunnel.. Rear part of the pan was replaced with a flat panel..

Found a set locally at a good price but I think I'll look for a set of 914 seats if no one's tried the TT seats before.

I'll second that. My Spider came with the big wing back race seats and the are way to large for the car and sit you up so high that you have to duck down to see most traffic lights while at the stop line. Makes getting in and out with the top up a bit more challanging too.
