Cams

Post by fiat218 »

I have a question, not a concern of the cams I bought

When doing my engine built I wanted to make sure I got the most out to of the engine as in built is
To its greats potential in horse power and torque
So in doing so my builder is doing what is street drivable and the octane available to run the car

So in doing all this I bought stage 2 cams from Alison's, radical, lumpy at idle ! Supposed to sound mean and raring to go

Well Alan ( Florida). Suppose to have the same cams as myself , I listen to his engine run on the site that he posted. I don't hear what I thought was suppose to be lumpy idle? Why

What am I missing? Let me know before it to late
Thanks

Alan car sounds awesome throu

Another 4 cylinders and a chev badge by the sounds of it.

I've read your question a few times and it is a little confusing but I think I get the gist.

Are there any specs on these "stage 2 cams", that would help if you want to discuss here or check what the engine builder is up to.

I guess if you have briefed your engine builder on what you are after and you have confidence they can provide then I reckon the cam selection should be left to him.

Varying items like (but not limited to) exhaust systems and induction/air intake can alter the way a car sounds if that's your concern. Some of the meanest Fiat's on the race track that I know of you could balance a glass of water on the engine while on idle and are the most sedate sounding things in the pits.

What compression ratio are we talking here?

Which depends on what Jim has asked for low down or top end.

... makes complete sense a wider separation of the intake cam lobes from the exhaust cam lobes would smooth out the idle.. On a single cam engine like my v6 that is not adjustable you can only advance or retard cam timing for exhaust and intake at the same time. Consider that an advantage to having separate intake and exhaust cams. I am imagining this also adds to the confusion though.

Cheers!
