ENGINE SWAP
Does anyone have an idea a to whats involved in putting a 1995cc engine into a 1970 fiat Spider with a 5 speed transmission?

You mean, the fiat 2.0 that came in 1979+ spiders? I think the main issue is hood clearance. The 2.0 is quite a bit taller than your stock engine.

I put a 79 2L carb in my 70. when i went to dual carbs had to modify the front air cleaner. I put a bigger radiator in the car so modified the body work below the radiator mount. I had read that some have left the stock radiator and it cooled ok. With the 70 cross member and motor mount you get a little rub on the pan and cross member. just enough to scuff the paint. Also, the center support on the hood will rub a little on the plastic belt cover. again creates only cosmetic wear. I got rid of the 79 carb and installed a 71 stock manifold and carb. I had to take the manifold to a machine shop for a modification to hold a small plate to block a port on the 79 block. I also re-jetted the carb. Better power and mileage at the same time. I think i just drilled out the mains one drill bit size. Im sure there is a more elegant way to get this done. If you are running a 1438, you will need to replace the bell housing with a 71 or newer to fit the bigger flywheel. You will want to get a bigger clutch and pressure plate as well. I also moved the battery to the back of the car to get it away from the heat and get some weight out of the nose.

Concerning oil pan clearance. Could I install the oil pan from the 1608 engine onto my 2 Liter and would that resolve the clearance issue?, are the oil pump pickup's the same on these engines?

the rub point is at the north end of the shallow part. dont think changing the pan would do any good. You could shim the motor mounts, but that would make the hood clearance worth. On my 80, i modified the hood center brace at the contact point with the belt guard to buy clearance. I guess you also run without the guard.

Think I'll be running without the guard to showoff my Millers Mule adjustable cam wheels and a all his aluminum pulleys. Like the idea of shimming the motor mounts

oil pan from 1592 or 1756cc is shalower than one from 1995cc. it will bolt on to 1995cc block. you will need to use oil pickup from any other fiat twincam, 1438, 1592, 1608, 1756.Wfolland wrote:Concerning oil pan clearance. you will also need to lower the raised section of the oil pan by couple milimeters. hammer will do the trick.
done this mod myself, no problems.
