DUDE wiring is nothing compared to the all the fabrication it takes to do the transplant.. SO far there is no easy way to do an engine swap in a spider... At least to my knowledge

Then it wouldn't be fun for me. It is the level of difficulty and uniqueness of the swap that keeps me going.. If everyone was doing it I'd be looking for another project... Lol

perhaps getting off topic, but I can see where there might be issues with the cross member and oil pan with the VW V-6.

Yup just took a look at that.. Not to mention it appears to be for a front wheel drive application.. Are there any rear wheel drive cars that they used it in?

My Passat is "all-wheel" drive, but as you mentioned front wheel biased until slippage is detected then 50-50...
Engine is east-west. The older Passats were north south.

Both of my Audi's have been north-south... A 3.0 v6 and my current 2.0T.. I dont think either one would be a good candidate for a swap though. They seem much taller..

A 15° V6 is certainly odd... Just like their 5 cylinder inline turbo.. After looking at the block online I think it is actually fairly wide at oil pan end. Which might not allow for clearance around the steering box and idler box.

Redline wrote:I remember the Caterham Levante used it, but I was just wondering what became of the motor because there are very few reports on it since everyone got excited initially, including a non-finished blog on an RST-V8 conversion of an Elise... not much to read in the last 5 years.

Sounds soooooo good:

Unfortunately that engine project died as it was mainly developed for small volume production that never happened. a few units were fitted on prototype chassis (one on an atom as well as the caterham) but never went any further. One is fitted to a hillclimb race car in Italy.....
