Agreed, that is exactly what I did with first two spiders and they were a hoot. On the first two pulled a rabbit out of the hat and sold both of them for more then I had into them. On the current build I keep tweeking little things and will never get my money back. A properly set up stock car is a lot of fun. In Texas everyone is driving 75 mph and in some cases 85 mph to 90 mph on TX130, the extra accelleration is very helpful (and fun).Spider that actually works fully to original spec. This is achievable for $3,000 or less.

It doesn't take a big increase in HP to have a noticeable difference with only 2000 lbs to push, acceleration can be
improved with just some minor gains under the hood.

Well Luke it looks like you have a business model. I currently have 1 spider and (soon)1 coupe but access to 4 motors...2 1600s and 2 1800s. Csaba maybe you can sell a rebuild "kit" for each motor type or better yet a stock style kit and a guy croft style kit. That way guys like me who can't yet talk "cam" language can buy the kit, hopefully with a spec sheet, take it to our local rebuilder and get er done. Could stock be under 3k total? Seems clear hi po can't but maybe $5k?

Re: Spider 2.0 crate motor
Well, there are a lot of variations between stock and a Guy Croft style
The total cost of the rebuild will greatly depend on whether the owner is doing the labor or subbing it out. If it's the latter then the cost will double, or more.

Re: Spider 2.0 crate motor
Take Matt's labor price list (unchanged from 2008), a couple of parts catalogs, and a calculator. Begin with $300 for a scrap motor. Add in a used single-plane manifold and 4-2-1 exhaust header if you don't already have these. Add truck freight from OH to your location.paintdudeluke wrote: You'd think somebody would offer that if they are already the fiat machine shop rebuild people.

What'd you come up with? Anywhere near $3k

Re: Spider 2.0 crate motor
It was like 10 years ago. I would have to do some digging for receipts. Sent the head to croft for him to build. Had the block done locally at Allisons using his book to build it to his fast road specs. croft supplied a crank fired ignition back the. I added his billet cams later, then added adjustable cam wheels from him. I still need to add his pulleys. I didn't really track the money. I wanted the best, so I just paid. The engine pulls so strong. Its like a totally different car now. I would do it again in a minute.

minor things?fiatfactory wrote:
With these you would be likely changing pistons to increase the static CR, and would require conversion to N/S style sumps... plus a few other minor things.
SteveC
intake and exhaust are on different sides of the engine, the manifold is pointing in the wrong direction, the throttle body is in the firewall, even though its on the wrong side. totally custom header needed or turbo system and a head pipe
cooling system designed for fwd, all that stuff hanging off the back of the engine and firewall will clash, (more modification)
as you said, sump and oil pump, and i am sure there is more, this was at a quick glance.
designed for turbocharging, so pistons or a turbocharger
plus 2811.00 price tag and shipping from germany, then add all the modifications. speed is truly expenive
my thoughts is you would have well over 8,000.00 in this engine to get how many hp?
not arguing, just thinking out loud
