Getting rid of bump steer...

Here's a great article that explains bump steer and how to get rid of it.

I have lengthened my rack 1.5" in order to correct the line up of the inner pivot of the rack with the line up of the control arm pivots(25.75"). Now the length of the tie rod is correct and the outer tie rod pivot lines up with the ball joint pivots..

Ackerman should be pretty close too.. Although I am going to have to experiment
a little to find the optimum.. Unless anyone has a suggestion on how I can measure and find the optimum.
If I do end up with too much I can always shim the rack ahead some to reduce the Ackerman Effect.

Cheers!

Back on the chopping block again is the cross-member. I needed to create some room around where the steering linkage passes through. which I will fill with a curved piece of 16 gauge exhaust pipe. I also shortened the steering shaft about 3" inches to change the angle of the linkage rod going to the column so that it will clear the frame.

Clears fine now..I had to make a small notch in the frame.

I took the coil over out so I could jack the tire up and down to measure the bump steer.. Which is now very close to zero and quite livable with a good Ackerman geometry that I can adjust..

I need to order up some new 85 1/2 pinifarina tie rod ends. I cut the previous ones too short!
Other wise the alignment is coming together. 8)

The 85 pininfarina tie rod ends showed up today. So I was able to put the coil over shocks in today and actually set the car on the ground for the first time in over a year.

Cheers!
