whether to change steering wheels or not
Aw, that is the question. Whether to stay with the original wood steering wheel or go to the new smaller sportery wood steering wheel. Any advise?

I changed the steering wheel from stock to the smaller Abarth a few months back. It looks nice. The steering has a different feel with a smaller wheel. If i were taller the smaller wheel would make a bigger diffence in space. As it is now, it is just a visual thing.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

the original wheel was plastic. Besides overall diameter, most of the newer wheels have a much thicker rim. It makes the grip more comfortable

At 6'2" a smaller wheel provides much appreciated leg room. Previously, my knee would interfere with the wiper stalk.
I currently have a wood Nardi wheel which is beautiful! It was a fantastic deal with some used parts. Doing it again, i would also look for a wheel with deeper dish to move the wheel closer to my body.
As Mark said, the feel provided with the thicker wheel is very nice!

Thanks will do. I am still searching for a good deal and the right color to match my dash. When I built my instrument panel/dash I stained it to match my original steering wheel.

Well I have decided to change steering wheels, but can not find an adapter for my '78 124. Seems that those that are available are for '79's and newer. Has anyone out there have a '78 or older who has been able to change their steering wheel. If so where did you get the adapter and steering wheel?

find someone parting a newer car and get the hub from that car. then everything just bolts on. or so I am told. I have not tried, i just got my hub in the mail today.
I actually have 2 now, but one is missing the horn contact ring. I am not sure if the older ring will work with the newer hub. if i have time ill take a look tomorrow and see if they are the same. ill sell you one of mine once i make sure one works for me.

i have a moma wheel on my 1975. i think i bought the adapter from iap or autoricambi. can't remember which. i needed to sand down the outside of the horn button to make it fit properly. you can also do a one-time adjustment on the angle of the steering wheel by inserting some washers between the dash and nuts that hold the steering wheel column in place.

Is that steering wheel adjustment under the dash near the firewall?
