oil cooler installatiom

Please share any pics of oil cooler installs. I'm undertaking installation of a 7"x12" unit and would appreciate looking at other approaches

The cooler is on the inferior grill but not touching it.

That's about what I was thinking of doing. That looks like a transmission filter. Did you just punch through the fins for that?

Yes, it´s a transmission oïl cooler but it works fine. Also, yes I went through the fines with some ''fan to radiator'' type attachement.
For the hoses fitting it´s just a plate that you can add between the oïl filter and the original bracket.

I don't know if I´m clear enought but ...

Dang, I really hate to see barbed fittings and clamp-on hoses on an engine oil circuit! I'd have hoses with AN fittings made. Yes, it costs more. For a reason

I have an oil cooler similar to the one on the GTI. It cools with water.

Yes, those are neat because they heat the oil when it's cold, and cool it if it's too hot.

So im curious: why an oil cooler? Any major reason other than potentially invreasing longevity?

It's not a necessary modification but to bring the oil temp down doesn't hurt, modern motor oils can handle high temps
no problem not like years ago they were more likely to break down under extreme conditions...

I assume they are pumping oil through the SC to cool it (same with a turbocharged engine). On a NA engine... it looks nice and all... but? I think the money would be better spent on updating the cooling system of the engine.

You brought up a good point this would be added protection for the parts on a turbo or blower that really need
some.

Oil coolers really are a great idea on anything driven fairly hard. Oil can run over 300 degrees pretty easy if you're really leaning on it and a cooler keeps the viscosity up plus pulls heat out of your bearings etc. Higher viscosity equates to better pressure and flow to the top end. Watch how much steadier an oil pressure gauge reads when things are cool and then notice how the pressure drops on idle once it warms up. Cool oil is a real blessing.
