there are two L plates riveted on the lower side of the upper grille hole (under the stainless steel plate) where the license plate was fixed.

you can see on the following picture the upper part of the L plates which are still in place today.

Move to a state that doesnt require front plates. Alabama only issues one plate for the rear... then again they are a bit backwards in this state... inbred and all... ((Not a native to the state so make fun of them as much as possible. LoL))

Washington State requires two plates, however only the rear has tabs. But we also have "Collector" plates for cars greater than 30 years old, they only give you one and it is non expiring, it is mounted on the rear of the car.

If you only need the plate for an inspection sticker why not zip tie it to the grill and take it off afterwards. PS, the fine for missing front plates or modifying front plates is $124, I have issued that ticket but usually only to drivers with bad attitudes!!

I keep my front plate safely stored in my trunk.

I've got the crash bumpers but the plate looked pretty bad up there so I decided to throw caution to the wind and go natural.

A quick Google search seems to suggest that NJ still requires a front plate but some of the enthuiast board posters claim they've never had a problem. They say it isn't a moving violation anyway and the fine is $45 or so.

Woody Allen: "Once my ex-wife said while returning to her East Side apartment she was "attacked and violated" "Asked to comment all I could say was, "knowing my ex-wife I'm sure it wasn't a moving violation."

now i feel bad about the anal cop comment ... no offense meant.... my attachment method was inferior .... one of the kids yanked on it and it came right off.... thinking it was more of an attention grabber than without.... gonna run without and take my chances

ditto on the tail lights

Absolutely no offense taken.....I see both sides of the argument, but I will say this....I have over 75 rolling stolen recoveries, all except for probably two or three were from reading the front plate as a car passed me ( allowing me to compare it to the Hot Sheet). Although I did catch one in front of me in the drive thru at Jack in the Box, he was yelling at pedestrians being an ass so I ran the plate.....stolen.....needless to say Karma can be a funny thing!!

But I do agree that the detract from some of the beautiful lines that alot of cars have.

Sorry to bring back a semi dead thread but I wanted to add that I've been running no front plate for ~3 years in Washington state and haven't had an issue. Interesting point on the stolen recovery thing though. Good to hear of an officer actually catching baddies. Watched one flip an illegal u-turn cutting off another car at a stop light, with no turn signal, and a headlight out while drinking out of a mug. He was running radar too according to my detector 8) Sucks that so many make the good ones look so horrible. Been pulled over for silly things like 5 over on the highway while going slightly slower than traffic, but not one officer ever has said a word about the lack of front plate. I think a combination of it being an old car that may not have come with a front plate and them simply having better things to do has been my savior. With that track record, if I ever do get a ticket for it I'll pay it and continue running with no front. Girlfriends Miata has no front either. They're simply too ugly and large to fit on the front of a small roadster without it absolutely ruining the car. If this Country wasn't so anal I would absolutely run a Euro style plate on my front spoiler with my proper plate number and call it a day. Apparently that is an even bigger no no than running no front at all, even if the numbers match.

Actually the fine, $124, is the same.......the best bet is to go with Collector Vehicle plates, they only issue 1 plate (rear), and you don't have to worry about it. And please remember, like any profession you have good examples and bad ones, I work for Tacoma, we have an excellent department, we are not perfect but we do try to be! Please drive safe this holiday season, your family will thank you.

God Bless, and Merry Christmas!

Just want to say thanks to pat for helping to keep my family in Tacoma safe. Also, I have the collector plates, I sleep better for it.

Definitely knocking on wood :D

Absolutely there are good and bad seeds in any profession. The store that I work at has been broken into multiple times. We have an alarm now, so we are notified immediately. I'm a manager there, so I'm usually the one called in to meet with the officer and check out the place. I've met some really cool officers who felt it was their responsibility to catch this crook, and I've had one guy come out and act extremely bothered that he was forced out of his warm car to ensure the guy wasn't still inside the store. I've also been pulled over for accelerating in an overly exuberant way  and that officer spent 10 seconds telling me not to accelerate so quickly and to save it for the track, and another two minutes talking about my car 8)

In Idaho we are suppose to have a front plate too, but since running without the front bumper there is no place to mount the state issued one.
I went ahead I ordered an Italian spec plate online in my correct state issued plate identification (did the Torino county mark & put the cars year in the expiration spot) & mounted it to my front spoiler.
Looks good, everybody comments/likes it & so far no problem with the local constables.

Oh yea, I have custom plates....Like them???
