V8 engine swap in my72

Post by brad302 »

I put a ford 302 in my 72" Fiat spider 9 years ago and its doing great. I'd be happy to post pictures if I knew how. But if you Google Fiat124 v8 it should show up its a bright orange. I also used a Ford c4 trans, a Chevy rear end from a S10. So many changes to even begin to tell you But It can be done and My car looks nearly stock. and I have put almost 20,000 mile on it after the swap. When I began I was told that I would never drive the car again . or it would twist like a pretzel. It hasn't yet.
I will be happy to answer questions. Maybe someone can tell this old dog how to post a picture.

Hi,

Some info on posting photos http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic ... os#p194188

I would love to see some pictures! These kinds of projects are good fun, and a Herculean effort. Not many people get them completed. Nice to hear of one on the road having completed a substantial road life.

Specifically I am interested in the rear end. What original parts did you use? Modifications? Mounting points? Lessons learned?

i am sure others will have general and specific questions.

Cheers,

Jordan

I used a rear end from CHEVYS S10 as I stated. It is the correct width 49.5 inches if I remember correctly. I cut all the four link parts from the Fiat rear end and transfered them to the Chevys and the spring seats. Added a pan hard bar from a corvette. A lot of welding. I HOPE THATS THE SORT OF ONFO YOU WERE LOOKING FOR..

I used the Fiats original mounting point. On the Fiat for the four links.. If remember correctly the hard part was finding the correct place to transfer the parts onto the Chevy rearend. I'm sorry I don't remember all the details. Sorry I looked at your photo link. But I didnvt see a answer that I understood or worked for me.

Put your pictures onto photobucket, then you can post them here.

Yes please post photos. I'll need a stronger rear end for my EV conversion and it sounds like you've got it down.

this link is to another hosting site that I like using but after using both photobucket and HB i'd say they each have
pros and cons any how Bernie might have a better explanation on how to use photobucket then mine but you
could give a try if your still messing with PB. Hostingbytes is free and no sign up necessary. Further down I explain
how to re size photos using windows 7.
